This Subscription Agreement (the “Agreement”) applies to all digital and print subscriptions to the Toronto Star (www.thestar.com), The Hamilton Spectator (www.thespec.com), the Niagara Falls Review (www.niagarafallsreview.ca), The Peterborough Examiner (www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com), the St. Catharines Standard (www.stcatharinesstandard.ca), the Waterloo Region Record (www.therecord.com), and the Welland Tribune (www.wellandtribune.ca) (collectively, the “Torstar Products” and individually, a “Torstar Product”).
By subscribing to a print or digital subscription to a Torstar Product offered by Toronto Star Newspapers Limited or Metroland Media Group Ltd. (in this Agreement, “we”, “us”, “our”), you agree to the following terms.
HOME DELIVERY. This section applies to print subscriptions to a Torstar Product. We will deliver the print subscription services to you in accordance with the term, frequency, and delivery start date specified in your subscription order. You are responsible for providing and maintaining current, complete and accurate delivery information. We reserve the right to verify the delivery of your home-delivery subscription.
Complimentary digital access for existing home delivery subscribers: Print subscribers with an active home-delivery subscription to a Torstar Product will receive complimentary digital access to that same Torstar Product for one user. To obtain digital access you must create an online Torstar Account, sign in and provide the required information. The email used to set up your Torstar Account must match the email on your home-delivery account so we can authenticate your complimentary access. Access to premium content or access for more than one user may be subject to additional charges. If you cease to be a home-delivery subscriber, or if you cease to pay for your home delivery subscription, your complimentary digital access will be cancelled. Digital access is subject to our Terms of Use.
Suspension of home delivery: When you go on vacation, you may request a home-delivery suspension, restarting when you return. We are able to provide home delivery suspensions for up to 180 consecutive days, but no more than a total of 180 days within a one-year period. Suspending home delivery will not extend the duration of a fixed-term subscription.
Suspensions of 30 consecutive days or less: If you suspend home delivery for a period of 30 days or less, you will continue to be charged in the ordinary course. Digital and ePaper access to the Torstar Product to which you subscribe (as applicable), will remain available to you throughout the suspension period.
Suspensions of 31-180 consecutive days: If you suspend home delivery for a period greater than 30 days, you will be charged in the ordinary course only for the first 30 days of the suspension. After 30 days, you will not be charged further during the suspension period, and digital and ePaper access to the Torstar Product to which you subscribe (as applicable) will also be suspended.
You may request to maintain digital and ePaper access during the suspension beyond the initial 30-day period. If you do so, you will be charged the current digital access fee during the balance of the suspension period.

DIGITAL SUBSCRIPTIONS. This section applies to digital subscriptions to a Torstar Product.
Once you purchase or otherwise become entitled to digital access to a Torstar Product, you will be able to access your digital subscription from almost any device connected to the internet. Simply sign in to your Torstar Account with your email address and password. Your subscription may not include full access to all of our digital services, such as premium content or content on other Torstar Products or news websites, and you may have to pay additional fees for full access. These additional charges will be clearly stated and you will not be charged without your consent. Digital access is subject to our Terms of Use.
You cannot use any Torstar Product in connection with any commercial purpose, unless you obtain our written consent in advance. This is a personal, individual subscription and you are not permitted to (a) allow others to use your password or (b) login to a Torstar subscriber account that is not associated with your own personal email address. If you represent an organization that wishes to purchase subscriptions for more than one user, you must purchase a group subscription.
The following sections apply to digital and print subscriptions to a Torstar Product.
TERM. Subscriptions may be offered on a continuing or fixed-term basis.
Continuous subscription: If you purchase a continuing subscription to a digital or print Torstar Product, your subscription will continue until it is cancelled. You will be billed every four weeks in accordance with section 6.
Fixed-term subscription:
Print subscribers: If you purchase a fixed-term print subscription, your subscription will continue until the end of the term selected at the time of purchase. When that term ends, your subscription will automatically renew (except as otherwise prohibited by law) for another fixed term, or you may contact us to cancel or convert to a continuing subscription.
Digital subscribers: If you purchase a fixed-term digital subscription, your subscription will continue until the end of the term selected at the time of purchase. Effective September 2, 2025*, when your fixed term ends, your subscription will automatically renew (except as otherwise prohibited by law) as a continuing subscription at a rate equivalent to the pro-rated annual fee indicated in your subscription order. You may contact us to cancel. (*Fixed terms set to renew on September 1, 2025 or earlier will automatically renew for another fixed term unless cancelled. At the end of that subsequent term, they will renew as a continuing subscription in accordance with the above parameters).
Subscriptions made via third parties: If you purchase a subscription through an authorized third party (e.g. the App Store or Google Play), at the end of any subscription term, your subscription will automatically renew for the term and at the rate disclosed to you by the authorized third party at the time of purchase, until you cancel your subscription (except as otherwise prohibited by law).
We may suspend or terminate your subscription at any time and for any reason, with or without notice and without further obligation.
FEES. Unless otherwise stated, fees for all subscribers are in Canadian dollars and do not include applicable taxes. You are responsible for paying all fees and applicable taxes in accordance with your subscription order. Subscription prices may vary from time to time. You will be provided notice of such changes in accordance with the terms of section 5 below. If a price is stated in error, as determined in our discretion, we are not required to offer the subscription at that price, but we will notify you of the error and give you the opportunity to cancel your order with a refund if payment has been made. You are responsible for any third-party fees or charges you incur in connection with your digital access, including any data fees that may be charged by your mobile phone or internet provider. We reserve the right to make changes to our digital services at any time. Without limiting the foregoing, we also reserve the right to charge fees for access to, and to change any limits applicable to obtain free access to, all or any portion of the services at any time. In such event, although your access to the applicable service may be restricted or denied, you will not be charged for access unless we obtain your prior agreement to pay such additional fees. If we temporarily reduce or eliminate any fees for services, content or access that you are currently paying for under different terms, you will not receive a refund.
NOTICE & AMENDMENTS. We may amend any provision of this Agreement at any time. We will provide notice of fee changes, extensions, renewals, amendments, or other material changes prior to implementation where required by applicable law. Notice may be provided by methods including but not limited to postal mail, email, telephone, or the posting of an advertisement or notice on a website or print publication of the Torstar Product. Except as otherwise prohibited by law, your continued use of the subscription service following any updates will mean your acceptance of this Agreement as amended. If you do not accept the changes, you may cancel your subscription in accordance with this Agreement (see section 9, below).
PAYMENT. You may pay for your subscription by pre-authorized recurring payments or by making a pre-payment in full. Unless otherwise stated, subscription fees for continuous subscriptions will be charged every four (4) weeks to the payment method selected at sign up. If you agree to provide us with pre-authorized recurring credit card payments: (a) you represent and warrant that you are the legal cardholder for the credit card provided (or any other credit card that you may provide to us from time to time) (the “Credit Card”); (b) you acknowledge that (i) payment for your subscription fee plus applicable taxes will be charged against your Credit Card on a recurring basis, (ii) if a recurring payment date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, your Credit Card may be charged on the next business day, and (iii) our authority to charge your Credit Card will continue until you notify us by telephone or mail to change your payment method (note: it may take up to 10 days to process your request) or until you cancel your subscription; and (c) you understand that cancelling this payment authorization applies only to the method of payment and does not affect or have any bearing on your payment obligations to us under the Agreement. If you have a charge by us on your Credit Card that you believe is incorrect, you must notify us within 90 days of the charge; otherwise, you will be deemed to have accepted the charge as billed. If we agree that you will provide us with recurring pre-authorized debit card payments, the terms of a Pre-Authorized Debit (“PAD”) Agreement provided to you at the time of sign up will apply. If you agree to pay for the services through an authorized third party (such as the App Store or Google Play), you agree to the payment terms presented to you by such authorized third party at the time of sign up.
PAYMENT INFORMATION. It is your responsibility to ensure your payment information is up-to-date and accurate so that payment may be made, and to notify us of any changes to your information. If we are unable to charge you for your subscription for any reason (e.g. if your Credit Card expires), you will remain responsible for all charges and we reserve the right to cease delivery of your service. You will be solely responsible for costs incurred in connection with the collection of unpaid amounts, including any collection agency fees.
OFFERS. Subscription offers and discounts may be subject to eligibility criteria, which will be disclosed at the time of offer. Not all offers are available in all locations. Unless otherwise stated, subscription offers and other promotions are not available in Quebec, are limited to one per person, are void where prohibited by law, and cannot be combined. Promotional offers are for new subscribers only. A new subscriber is any user who has not had an active subscription within the previous six (6) months. We may revoke, terminate, cancel, or modify any subscription offer at any time.
CANCELLATION.
For subscriptions purchased through an authorized third party (e.g. the App Store or Google Play): You may request a cancellation via the method(s) and within the timeframes disclosed to you by the authorized third party at the time of sign up. If you have purchased an annual subscription and cancel prior to the end of your term, you will not be entitled to a refund (except as otherwise prohibited by law).
For continuous subscriptions: You may request a cancellation of your subscription at any time by telephoning our Customer Service Centre at the number below (see section 11). Except as otherwise prohibited by law (or as we may otherwise advise you in writing): (a) if you have a fixed subscription term and you cancel prior to the end of the term, you will be charged an early cancellation fee equal to the amount otherwise payable for the remainder of the term, plus applicable taxes; (b) for home-delivery subscriptions, we require a minimum of 5 business days’ notice prior to the end of your current billing period to cancel your subscription, so if we receive your notice less than 5 business days prior to the end of your current billing period, your cancellation will be effective at the end of your next billing period; and (c) for digital subscriptions, we require a minimum of 48 business hours notice prior to the end of your current billing period to cancel your subscription, so if we receive your notice less than 48 business hours prior to the end of your current billing period, your cancellation will be effective at the end of your next billing period. You will continue to have the same access and benefits of your service until your cancellation becomes effective. The cancellation fee will be charged using the billing method we have on file at the time of cancellation.
For fixed-term subscriptions: Fixed-term subscriptions cannot be refunded. If you would like to cancel your subscription, the cancellation will take effect at the end of the fixed term. We reserve the right to issue refunds at our sole discretion.
REFUNDS/CREDITS. Refunds or credits may be issued in our sole discretion, on a case-by-case basis. If we issue a refund or credit, we are under no obligation to issue the same or similar refund in the future. For print subscribers, due to administrative costs, we will not refund amounts of $15.00 or less.

FOR NON-QUEBEC RESIDENTS: You acknowledge and agree that any failure or delay by us in performing any obligations under this Agreement (including, without limitation, any failure, delay or suspension of delivery of products or services) due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control (including, without limitation, internet failure, equipment failure, telecommunications failure, electrical power failure, satellite failure, strike, labour dispute, riot, insurrection, civil disturbance, shortage of labour or materials, fire, flood, storm, explosion, act of God, war, governmental action, public health incident or emergency, or order of any domestic or foreign court or tribunal), shall not be a breach of this Agreement and you will not hold us liable or responsible for any damages resulting from or otherwise relating to such failure or delay. You further acknowledge and agree that our content or websites may be temporarily unavailable, inaccessible, or inoperable for any reason from time to time, including, without limitation, for periodic maintenance, repairs, or disruptions as described above.
GENERAL. You may not change or assign this Agreement, but we may assign or transfer this Agreement or any of our obligations under this Agreement without your consent. This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. It is the express wish of the parties that this agreement and all related documents be drawn up in English. C’est la volonté expresse des parties que le présent contrat ainsi que les documents qui s’y rattachent soient rédigés en anglais. Your personal information will be treated in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available at https://notices.torstar.com/privacy-policy/. This Agreement, together with our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and any applicable PAD Agreement and the terms of your subscription order (including any terms agreed to with an authorized third party such as the App Store or Google Play), is your entire agreement with us regarding your use of our subscription services. In the event of a conflict between any portion of this Agreement and the terms of your subscription order, the provisions of this Agreement shall prevail. App Store is a service mark of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. Google Play is a trademark of Google LLC.
